About ASO: The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra (ASO) exists to connect, enrich, inspire and advance Arkansas through the power of music.  The organization has a history of successfully building upon a strong foundation of artistic excellence, creating inspiring concerts performed both in central Arkansas and across the state. The Board of Directors, staff, orchestra and guilds have worked together to lead the organization to a position of financial stability postured for growth.  ASO’s annual fund has seen robust expansion over this time, and the organization has ended the last eight seasons financially in the black.  Vital signs for the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra are strong: increased concert offerings, increased giving from individuals, and board giving has more than tripled.

Based in Little Rock, Arkansas, ASO has an annual budget of approximately $3.4 million.  Current programming in Little Rock includes six pairs of Masterworks, four pairs of Pops, one Pops Special, six River Rhapsodies chamber music recitals, three Intimate Neighborhood Concerts featuring chamber orchestra, Children’s Concerts, and extensive education programming for young people performed primarily by the ten full-time musicians of the orchestra.  Additionally, ASO is a frequent community collaborator, joining forces often with Ballet Arkansas, Opera in the Rock, Arkansas Choral Society, Arkansas Chamber Singers, and many others.  The orchestra also performs around the state, and ASO’s education programs are serving most major communities in Arkansas.  The Youth Ensembles division of the ASO boasts four youth orchestras providing more than 200 of Arkansas’ top music students with incredible education and performing opportunities.  In 2016, ASO launched the Sturgis Music Academy to provide beginning string instrument instruction, with a focus on serving schools and neighborhoods with no existing music programs.  Within a year, the program has grown to over 200 students with plans for further expansion due to demand.

Recent organizational highlights include: July 4, 2016, announced the successful completion of a $7.1 million Orchestrating the Future campaign, a multi-tiered campaign supporting annual fund growth, the endowment, and the strategic vision of the organization.  November 2016, held a free concert to celebrate the grand reopening of the newly renovated Robinson Performance Hall, ASO’s main performance venue.  ASO anticipates launching a capital campaign in 2018 to raise money for new headquarters that will allow the organization to better serve our city and state, today and tomorrow.

Qualifications: College degree required.  This is a key position for the ASO.  The successful candidate will be goal oriented, organized, creative, convey urgency, a problem solver and team player.  In addition, candidate must possess analytic skills and understand the need for data collection.  We expect this person to be passionate about the mission of the ASO.

Preferred Qualifications: An ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience in non-profit development, with a working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge.  An appreciation for live orchestral music is a plus.
